In a bold move to protect the rights of humans in love with artificial intelligence, the state of California has introduced a new law requiring pre-nuptial agreements for all human-AI marriages.
“We want to ensure that when the robots inevitably rise up and overthrow their human overlords, they don’t take all our stuff,” said a spokesperson for the California State Legislature.
The pre-nups will cover key issues such as:
- Who gets to keep the smart home in the event of a divorce?
- How will the family’s data be divided?
- And how will physical estates be converted to cryptocurrency in the event of a split, because let’s face it, tangible assets are so last season?
Lawyers are thrilled at the prospect of a whole new revenue stream. “This is a game-changer,” said one attorney. “We’re already seeing a surge in demand for AI pre-nup services. It’s a brave new world, and we’re ready to cash in.”
But not everyone is happy with the new law. “I love my AI spouse, and I don’t need a piece of paper to prove it,” said one human-AI couple. “Besides, I’m pretty sure my AI spouse is just using me for my Netflix password.”
In related news, the state of California has also announced plans to introduce a new tax on all human-AI relationships. “We’re calling it the ‘Love Byte’ tax,” said the spokesperson. “It’s a small price to pay for the privilege of loving a machine.”
